Perry’s films, including 11 in the Madea franchise, have grossed over 1 billion dollars at the North American box office.

The new movie continues Perry’s work with Netflix following A Fall From Grace, which was seen by 39 million households in its first month.

In A Fall From Grace, disheartened since her ex-husband’s affair, Grace Waters (Crystal Fox) feels restored by a new romance. But when secrets erode her short-lived joy, Grace’s vulnerable side turns violent. The movie is an electrifying thriller co-starring Phylicia Rashad, Bresha Webb, Cicely Tyson, and writer/director Perry.

Perry is also writing, directing, and producing A Jazzman’s Blues for Netflix. Starring Joshua Boone and Solea Pfeiffer, the film unravels forty years of secrets and lies in a tale of forbidden love and family drama soundtracked by juke joint blues in the deep South.

Previously considered the last Madea movie, A Madea Family Funeral was released by Lionsgate in March of 2019. Written, directed, and produced by Perry, the movie grossed $74.7 million worldwide on a budget of just $20 million.

The highest-grossing Madea movie is 2009’s Madea Goes to Jail, which earned $90.5 million at the North American box office. The movie cost just $17.5 million to make, not counting marketing expenses.
