Browns QB Baker Mayfield steps away from social media after interesting 'like'
Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield endured a tough 2021 NFL season, during which he suffered a serious injury to his non-throwing shoulder in Week 2 that ultimately required him to undergo successful surgery earlier this month. Mayfield also left plenty to be desired with his on-the-field performances, and his wife generated headlines in late December when she claimed the couple had received "death threats" via social media.
Cleveland's QB1 has often had a difficult relationship with social media throughout his time in Cleveland, and it appears he's ready to do something about it as he recovers from his medical procedure.
Per Ben Axelrod of WKYC, Mayfield took to his Instagram story to confirm he is stepping away from social media "for the foreseeable future" ahead of February:
Mayfield's decision comes after he spent some time on Twitter during Sunday night's epic playoff game between the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs and "liked" a tweet sent by former player and current Cleveland radio personality Dustin Fox that criticized the No. 1 pick of the 2018 NFL Draft:
Without mentioning any names, Mayfield seemed to address the matter:
Unless he surprisingly signs an extension with the Browns beforehand, Mayfield is on track to open the new NFL year in March on the fifth-year option attached to his rookie contract worth $18.858 million. Shortly after Week 18, both Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski and general manager Andrew Berry strongly suggested Mayfield will remain their starting signal-caller through the offseason regardless of media speculation about the club's handling of the position this winter.
