Montreal Canadiens

Brendan Gallagher could return to the lineup for the Canadiens this weekend.
The forward has missed eight games with a lower-body injury. He has scored 10 points (four goals, six assists) in 25 games.
Forward Paul Byron also could make his season debut this weekend, Canadiens coach Dominique Ducharme said. Bryon had offseason hip surgery.
Forward Jonathan Drouin will be out indefinitely because of an upper-body injury.
He was injured in a 4-3 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights on Jan. 20 and has missed two games.
Drouin has scored 20 points (six goals, 14 assists) in 32 games this season.
Goalie Carey Price is making progress as he rehabs his right knee but there is no timetable for his return to the ice.

San Jose Sharks

Adin Hill has a lower-body injury and is day to day for the Sharks.
The goalie allowed three goals on 18 shots in a 7-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday.
Hill is 9-11-1 with a 2.78 goals-against average, .901 save percentage and one shutout in 24 games (21 starts) this season.
James Reimer will start against the Washington Capitals on Wednesday (7 p.m. ET; NBCSWA, NBCSCA, ESPN+, NHL LIVE) and Zach Sawchenko will be the backup.

New Jersey Devils

Dougie Hamilton practiced with the Devils on Wednesday for the first time since having surgery for a broken jaw.
The defenseman, who was in a no contact jersey, was injured after he was hit by a shot in a 4-3 overtime win against the Washington Capitals on Jan. 2 and had surgery three days later. He resumed skating last Monday.
Hamilton has scored 20 points (seven goals, 13 assists) in 30 games this season.
Defenseman Ty Smith practiced for the first time since sustaining an upper-body injury in a 4-1 loss to the Arizona Coyotes on Jan. 19.

Minnesota Wild

Jonas Brodin was medically cleared and practiced for the first time Wednesday after missing six games with an upper-body injury and could return when the Wild visit the New York Rangers on Friday.
The defenseman sustained the injury when he blocked a shot in the third period of a 3-2 win at the Boston Bruins on Jan. 6.
"[The puck] hit me pretty early in the third there," Brodin said. "I thought it was just a bone bruise, it wasn't too bad, it got numb pretty quick. But at the end I took a slap shot and I thought something's not good here. [My hand] was broken after x-ray."
Brodin will participate in practice Thursday before assessing if he will be ready to play against the Rangers.
"We'll see, but he looked good," coach Dean Evason said. "His legs are gonna' be fine, just a matter of handling the puck and what have you, but he looked good in that area too.
"It'll be a big bonus if we can get him back this weekend."
Brodin has scored 16 points (three goals, 13 assists) in 29 games this season.
Cam Talbot is also possible to play Friday. The goalie aggravated a lower-body injury that caused him to miss six games when he returned and played two periods in an 8-2 win against the Montreal Canadiens on Monday. Talbot allowed one goal on 15 shots but did not play the third period.
"I had a good talk with him this morning," Evason said. "He could have gone back in as we talked about, but we the way the game was going we just didn't feel it was necessary. He said he felt great yesterd ... and he really tested it today. It was good so we'll see how it shakes out after practice here."

Vancouver Canucks

Jaroslav Halak will rejoin the Canucks for a four-game road trip but likely won't start against the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday after being away from the team since Jan. 15.
The goalie was placed in NHL COVID-19 protocol; he last played in a 2-1 shootout loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Dec. 30. Halak is 1-4-2 with a 2.59 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage in eight games (seven starts).
No. 1 goalie Thatcher Demko remains in protocol and unable to travel to start the road trip. Demko has missed three games since being placed in protocol on Jan. 20 but skated with several teammates for the first time on Wednesday.
"Demko was on the ice this morning with only guys that have had COVID before.
That's what he was allowed to do," Canucks coach Bruce Boudreau said. "But he's still in the protocol so he's not making the initial part of the trip."
Spencer Martin is likely to make his third start in four games. He was placed in protocol Saturday and unavailable for a 3-1 loss against the St. Louis Blues on Sunday. Martin made 47 saves in a 3-2 overtime loss against the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday.
Boudreau said that defenseman Kyle Burroughs, who has three points (one goal, two assists) in 31 games, will be out until after the All-Star break because of a lower-body injury. Vancouver's first game after the break is Feb. 8.-- Kevin Woodley
