It looks like we’ll have to wait a little longer to reunite with the Crawleys.
Downton Abbey: A New Era, which was previously slated to hit U.S. theaters on March 18, is now being pushed to May 20, our sister site Deadline reports. The film, a follow-up to 2019’s Downton Abbey, will premiere in the U.K. on April 29.
The film’s cast includes original Downton Abbey cast members Hugh Bonneville, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, Brendan Coyle, Michelle Dockery, Kevin Doyle, Joanne Froggatt, Harry Hadden-Paton, Robert James-Collier, Allen Leech, Phyllis Logan, Elizabeth McGovern, Sophie McShera, Tuppence Middleton, Lesley Nicol, Maggie Smith, Imelda Staunton and Penelope Wilton. They are joined by newcomers Hugh Dancy, Laura Haddock, Nathalie Baye and Dominic West.
Downton Abbey: A New Era relocates the Crawleys to the South of France, where the Dowager Countess (Smith) has come into the possession of a villa — apparently thanks to a mysterious man from her past. As Carson (Carter) remarks in the teaser below, “They better be warned — the British are coming.”
Series creator Julian Fellowes wrote the movie, which is directed by Simon Curtis (My Week With Marilyn).

Tuppence Middleton was not an original cast member. She was introduced in the first film. SMH
*And Imelda
So much for telling us WHY the movie was pushed. 🤦🏼♂️
Omicron. This movie appeals to a lot of older, Covid-wary individuals.
Right. I was just calling out the laziness that is journalism these days. Never assume anything.
COVID concerns or another movie encroached on it.
Still no Lily James (cousin Rose)? Bummer.
She’s pretty busy these days.
Why can’t this pick back up as a show? More stories to tell, continue on. It was great as a tv show.
I agree 100%. I would love to see the Great Depression and the start of WW2 explored in Downton Abby. It would be interesting to bring the Crawleys into the later 20th century .
Yes please!! I don’t think any of the characters ran out of story line. They were all so interesting, and so many to choose from. They did a good job with the tv show showing them through the years. That time had so many things going on, so it would be great to watch many more episodes.
I think it’s a slap in the face to the millions of faithful followers who have waited and waited for this to open. Shame of putting profit before loyal fans!
Hear hear! I’ve been (not so) patiently waiting for March 18, and now this! It makes me feel like skipping it altogether when it finally is released.
Can’t wait
I absolutely cannot wait to see this movie, set in the south of France. Looking forward to seeing the ever intriguing Dominic West in the movie and how he will slot into the plot. Perhaps a new beau for lady Mary? I was never quite the same after the tragic exit of Mathew. I rather hoped she might fall in love with her widowed brother-in-law but that would not have suited her aura. She’s far too posh. The Dowager Countess is sure to bring us some entertaining scenes and no doubt Mrs Crawley will eek out her exhilarating past even if the countess has a way of keeping it under wraps. Cannot wait for this one
Mary already has a husband, the car racer
Can’t wait love Downton Abbey 😃😃😃😃😃
We will miss the “house” though.!
Thought it was in theatres on 23rd March this year 🤔 is it now April for the UK 🇬🇧 🤔
can’t wait!
I can’t wait for some artistic, beautiful written, shows.
Sure am. I’m a huge Downton fan. Wouldn’t miss it for the world. Love to catch up with the latest gossip in the lives of the Crawley clan.
Attendiamo con molto piacere la nuova serie!!!! Ant
So anxious for the new movie. So disappointed it has been postponed yet again. You have two very elderly ladies waiting to see it! Don’t wait to long PLEASE! Watching the whole seasons now AGAIN! Can’t get enough. Each time I watch it I see something new. Am a great fan of the house! Love the pics and little trinkets setting all around. This last viewing I’m taking particular notice of the ladies clothing, so beautiful. Love Downton!
Can’t wait love the Crawleys
Pleased to hear of the 2-month delay because I was so looking forward to the movie but NOT to sitting in a theater wearing a suffocating mask for 2 hours and so was going to skip the film. It looks as though restrictions are finally being lifted so hopefully by May we can enjoy another visit with the Downton cast.
Love & look forward to the movies, but I’d be ecstatic if the TV show came back. Please Mr. Fellowes, progress the Crawley’s through the 20th Century!!! You have millions of fans who have fallen in love with the Crawley’s and we want to see their grandchildren & great-grandchildren live out the heritage without dumping the family history.
Why is the movie showinh in Pittsburgh only one day May 20th.
I am so looking forward to Downton Abbey; the new era. When is it supposed to hit the United States theaters or tv? Here it is July 2022 and I have seen or heard nothing.
