Orlando City SC sent forward Alexander Alvarado to Ecuador’s Liga Deportiva Universitaria on a free loan for 2022.

The deal announced by the MLS club Wednesday includes an option for LDU to purchase his rights before Dec. 1.

“Alexander is someone who has put in a lot of effort since joining our Club and has always maintained a strong work ethic,” said Orlando City general manager Luiz Muzzi said in a news release. “This loan presents him with a unique opportunity to gain valuable minutes while also returning home. We look forward to seeing his growth throughout his time in Ecuador.”

The 22-year-old Ecuador native has played in 12 matches (two starts) for the Lions since arriving on loan at the end of the 2020 season.

Internationally, Alvarado has made two appearances for Ecuador’s senior national team.
