Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats revisited their album release show at the Beacon Theatre on Monday with a video of “Face Down in the Moment”. The performance comes from the ensemble’s November 5th performance at the New York venue, celebrating the release of The Future.

“Face Down in the Moment” follows an artistic parallel to Rateliff’s career arc over the past few years. The song begins with the frontman alone at the piano, gently whispering out the song’s opening lines. Two years ago, Rateliff announced a break from The Night Sweats to release his debut solo album, And It’s Still Alright. The fiery soul frontman explored a singer-songwriter path, garnering much critical and commercial acclaim along the way.

Then in February 2021, Rateliff surprised fans by performing alongside The Night Sweats for an appearance on Saturday Night Live. This reunion is symbolized in “Face Down in the Moment” as the simplistic snare and kick drum join in. One by one, the rest of the Night Sweats count off as Rateliff rises from his piano to assume his rightful place center stage. The completed ensemble rises to a mighty crescendo, as Nathaniel bellows with the same bravado that first brought the group to prominence with its 2015 self-titled release.
