The GMC Hummer EV Pickup truck might have won the electric truck race before it even started. While most major brands are working hard on electric trucks, such as the Ford F-150 Lightning, it appears the Hummer EV truck has come out ahead.

According to Inside EVs, the GMC Hummer EV Pickup truck has been spotted heading to the dealership. This week, three white Hummer EV trucks were seen on the back of a transportation truck. GMC started production of the newest electric truck back in December, so it makes sense these are rolling out now.

These are the First Edition trim level, which sold out very quickly when GMC made it available. These are the more expensive trim levels, starting at $112,595. This version had 1,000 hp, 11,500 lb-ft of torque, and could tow up to 7,500 pounds. It also had a payload capacity of 1,300 pounds.

The Hummer EV Pickup will come in a few more trim levels, including the EV3X trim. This one started at $99,995 and is slated to hit dealerships in Fall 2022. There is also an EV2X trim starting at $89,995 (Spring 2023) and the EV2 starts at $79,995 (Spring 2024).

These GMC Hummer EV trucks were seen in Michigan near GM’s Factory ZERO

These particular versions of the GMC Hummer EV Pickup truck were spotted in the Detroit Metro area. Since the electric truck is made at the Detroit/Hamtramck plant in Michigan, this is a likely place to spot it. Back in December, GMC sold the first Hummer EV SUV off the production line for a cool $2.5 million. It all went to charity through the Barrett-Jackson auction, thankfully.

However, it seems these might be actual customer-ordered vehicles finally heading home. GMC didn’t say how many Hummer trucks sold before reservations closed, but it was likely quite a few to jump-start production. Since these have the big battery pack and the most power, it makes sense GMC started with the high-end version.

Not only have Hummers been a popular truck for those who want to see and be seen, but GMC managed to get Hummer EV Pickup off the production line before anyone else had the chance. Namely, the Ford F-150 Lightning electric truck. There has been a mad dash recently to get the first electric trucks into the hands of consumers, but ramping up production has proved to be a bigger task than anticipated.

Electric trucks are all the rage, but delays are plaguing the industry

The Ford F-150 Lightning has begun production in Michigan but isn’t expected to start deliveries until Spring. Ford has been working hard at ramping up production on all of its electric vehicles, including the Ford Mustang Mach-E. The automaker said that it had over 200,000 reservations for the Lightning truck, which was years of production. After the interest in all of these EVs, Ford is expected to double production each coming year.

The Tesla Cybertruck, which was one of the first electric trucks announced, has been unceremoniously pushed back until sometime in 2023. However, just this week Tesla released images of the completed truck. Tesla still has a long way to go before that electric truck makes it into customer’s hands, though.

For now, it seems the 2022 GMC Hummer EV Pickup truck has a head start. Which electric truck will hit the road next? All eyes on you, Ford.
