A video showing a dog being rescued just moments before it was due to be slaughtered for its meat has been released by a campaigner who claims to be saving dogs from this trade. The video was posted to TikTok where it has now been viewed over 10 million times.
Jonny Preston, also known as Jonathan Cossu, says he found the dog at a slaughterhouse in Bolgatanga, Ghana. In the video he can be seen negotiating with the workers at the slaughterhouse to let him take the dog, who is huddled on the ground looking terrified.
Preston is a controversial figure in the animal rescue community. He was issued a cease and desist order by the Attorney General of California in relation to his charity Urgent Dogs of LA. He was ordered to stop operations for multiple violations. The order said donation requests were made for specific dogs, but money raised did not make it to the charity.
