LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jan. 26, 2022) – While political observers await what Governor Whitmer might say during her Wednesday State of the State address, state lawmakers are going ahead on what they want to accomplish in 2022.
Third-term Republican Representative Mary Whiteford of the South Haven area is term-limited out of office at year’s end, but before she goes, the chair of the House Health and Human Services Subcommittee is holding a Wednesday morning hearing dealing with the issue of human trafficking.
“We’re going to be discussing safe housing options for people who survive human trafficking and are rescued, so that they can get their feet back on the ground” Whiteford said during a recent appearance on “WHTC Talk of the Town.” “I appropriated $500,000 in the current year budget to be able to have programs like this.”
Among those scheduled to make presentations is Allegan Circuit Court Judge Margaret Bakker, Jessica Glynn of the Kalamazoo YMCA, a FBI special agent and an unnamed human trafficking survivor and activist.
The meeting is slated for the Appropriations Room, Room 352 of the State Capitol Building in Lansing, from from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
