Penn State recruiting updates leads the newsstand on Jan. 26.

A five-star from Washington, D.C., spoke with On3 on Tuesday, and part of the discussion centered on the Lions. And, speaking of head coach James Franklin’s program, it has sent out a new offer to a transfer portal prospect.

Let’s dive into the top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college football on Wednesday.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with Nykoles Harbor.

The Class of 2023 five-star edge from Washington, D.C., can go wherever he wants to play football, run track, or both. Penn State, where his sister graduated from, is one of the options.

“Home away from,” Harbor told On3’s Bill Embody.

“So, my dad already loves the school. Loves coach Ty (Howie), all the coaches there. Got a great relationship with every coach there. It’s like a second home there.”

Michigan, Oklahoma, LSU, Ohio State, North Carolina, South Carolina, and now even Alabama are all also on the lengthy list of schools that have offered.

Harbor already was considered one of the nation’s best junior recruits and athletes. Then, he clocked a 20.79-second 200-meter sprint over the weekend. It’s reportedly the fourth-best indoor track and field times ever recorded by a prep prospect.

Keep in mind, too, that Harbor stands 6-foot-5, 235 pounds. His On3 NIL valuation is $24,000.

In other news, a new transfer portal offer is out. Penn State was the first school to jump into the race for Miami of Ohio defensive lineman Kam Butler. He was a first-team All-MAC pick in 2021 after making 53 tackles to go along with eight sacks, three forced fumbles, and an interception.

Finally, as James Franklin continues to hit the road recruiting, he stopped at 2023 commit Neeo Avery’s high school on Tuesday.

Quote of the day

“On the way home, we were talking about how Coach Franklin really pushed academics a lot. They have a lot of what you need because not many people are going to make it to the NFL from college.

“So, with the scholarship you can get from Penn State, it’ll make sure that you get a good job after school. Not to mention, you build a lot of connections with people just for going to Penn State because of so many alumni they have.”
