Jesse Lingard's Transfer To Newcastle 'On Verge Of Collapsing' After Club Reject Man United's Outrageous Clause

Jesse Lingard's Transfer To Newcastle 'On Verge Of Collapsing' After Club Reject Man United's Outrageous Clause

Newcastle were prepared to cover Jesse Lingard's £75,000-a-week wages and offered Manchester United £2.5m for the loan fee.

Jesse Lingard’s sensational move to Newcastle is ‘on the verge of collapsing’ after the club rejected a high-risk clause from Manchester United, according to reports.

The 29-year-old United player has been battling for minutes at Old Trafford and failed to establish himself as a regular after a successful loan spell at West Ham.

Lingard is out of contract with United at the end of the season, with the Newcastle target pushing for an exit in the January transfer window.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe is keen to add the England international to his squad ahead of the window shutting on 31st January.

However, talks between United and Newcastle have hit a major stumbling block over a deal and Lingard could remain at Old Trafford until the end of the season.

David Ornstein reported for The Athletic that Newcastle’s loan approach for the United attacking midfielder was ‘on the verge of collapsing.’

According to Ornstein, the hefty loan fee for Lingard proved to be an issue and there were disagreements over the finances involved in a deal.

Now, The Daily Telegraph reports that the Magpies were prepared to cover Lingard’s £75,000-a-week wages in full and would put up a ‘considerable loan fee’ of £2.5m.

However, the newspaper claimed that United wanted a specific clause where Newcastle would have to pay a £12m ‘survival bonus’ if they avoid relegation.

The Telegraph’s James Ducker has suggested Newcastle have been put off by a loan move for Lingard and ‘balked at the overall cost of the deal’ to sign him from United.

The publication initially reported that Lingard is ‘increasingly angered and exasperated’ over his current predicament, with the story later pulled.

But it has since been claimed that Lingard’s ‘frustrated by his current situation’ at United, as a January move to Newcastle becomes increasingly unlikely.

Lingard, who has also been linked with Tottenham and West Ham, has made 224 appearances for United and lifted a Europa League, an FA Cup and a League Cup.
