The Washington Capitals conclude their three game homestand tonight against the San Jose Sharks. Coming off a 1-0 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights on Monday, the Caps look to bounce back. The Caps won the first matchup between the two teams 4-0 on Nov. 20, 2021 on the road behind a 22 save performance from Ilya Samsonov.

The Caps have earned a point in seven straight games against the Sharks dating back to Dec. 4, 2017, going 6-0-1 and outscoring San Jose 27-15 during that stretch. Alex Ovechkin (five goals and three assists) and Evgeny Kuznetsov (two goals and six assists) each have points in seven of their last eight games.

Vitek Vanecek has started in goal the last four games and in his last five games. He has stopped 130 of 140 shots for a .929 save percentage while recording a 2.00 goals against average.

Nicklas Backstrom (two goals and one assist) and Trevor van Riemsdyk (two assists) each have points in two of their last three games. Yesterday the Caps had an optional practice at MedStar Capitals Iceplex. Not much news happened there the big news happened at night time when Elliotte Friedman wrote in his 32 Thoughts column that the Caps are interested in acquiring Marc-Andre Fleury.

While Fleury would help the goaltending out a bit, I think it would be weird having him in the locker room. Plus it wouldn’t help a team like the Caps who are trying to get younger.
