The New York Fashion Week schedule just lost another big name designer from its February ranks—but for very good reason. Thom Browne will stage his fall 2022 unisex collection runway in New York on April 29. He will still unveil a new project during NYFW that touches on themes from his upcoming show.

The date of his fall 2022 runway is significant: It’s the Friday before the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art will open part two of its expansive dive into American style, “In America: An Anthology of Fashion” on May 5. The exhibition, a sister to the currently running “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” will explore American fashion legacies using the museum’s period rooms as sets for dialogues about race, gender, community, and craft.

Browne’s partner, Andrew Bolton, is the Wendy Yu curator in charge of the Costume Institute and has curated both exhibitions—he’s also a front row staple at Browne’s shows.

“It is important for me to continue our celebration of American design and support Andrew’s second exhibition on American fashion at The Met,” said Browne in a statement. “There is so much individuality and creativity behind American design. The CFDA’s American Collections Calendar is designed to support American designers to show when and how is best for them. Being able to showcase this in the best way, to create something truly unique and at the highest standards, and to truly support Andrew’s vision for the strength and importance of American design and fashion.”

Browne’s show will also precede the Met Gala in celebration of “An Anthology of Fashion,” slated to take place on May 2. The gala celebrating the first part of the show was a big night from Browne, with Pete Davidson, Evan Mock, Sharon Stone, Lee Pace, Amandla Stenberg, and MJ Rodriguez all wearing black-and-white Browne looks on the red carpet. Expect more stars to choose TB on May 2—and for the front row on April 29.
