‘Cut and Run’ Acquired by New Republic Pictures, Jake Gyllenhaal to Lead

After a bidding war over the script, New Republic Pictures has won the rights to Cut and Run, a heist thriller film in which Jake Gyllenhaal is set to star. Written by John Glenn, Cut and Run follows a group of thieves who target high-class yachts and rob them with high-powered speed boats. Gyllenhaal would presumably play one of the lead thieves. Not much else is known about the project as it has just started to get off the ground.

Gyllenhaal is also set to produce the film via his production company Nine Stories Productions. Since its founding in 2015 by Gyllenhaal and Riva Marker, the company has produced many films, including The Devil All the Time, Joe Bell, and Breaking News in Yuba County. Brian Oliver, the founder of New Republic pictures, and Bradley Fischer, the company president, are also set to produce alongside Glenn.

Gyllenhaal is most known for his roles in Donnie Darko, Nightcrawler, Prisoners, and most recently, The Guilty, a film about a 9-1-1 dispatch center call operator that faces a moral dilemma to save a kidnapped woman all while confronting his own past guilt. The Guilty is another film produced by Nine Stories Productions. He will also star in Michael Bay’s film Ambulance set to release on April 8 this year.

Cut and Run is expected to go into production soon.
