English Dub Review: Rumble Garanndoll “The Akiba Apocalypse Revelation (That No One Asked For)!”

Overview

Things are settling down with the two battery girls, but Kudo Hosomichi’s regret is catching up to him. He believes what they fight for may not be worth the damage they cause. Meanwhile, a strange box appears in their room…

Our Take

We finally get the backstory/setting of the show and for once its actually is an interesting concept. I don’t know why they waited until episode 6 to introduce it, but at least we got some world-building in regards to what is going on and somehow nobody else knew what was going on either? Have they not been living there for a long time? Nevertheless, it works as one hell of an info dump. Although I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I’m a bit worried in regards to the direction it could possibly take at that point. We are five episodes in and Kudo clearly doesn’t give a shit about the cause he’s fighting for which leads to an interesting reveal about Balzac and his past history with a disaster that happened 10 years ago that still weighs heavily on his shoulders to this day…

As for the true army’s propaganda video, while I do understand where the True Army is coming from, that’s not their world and they’re sticking their nose where it doesn’t belong. It’s pretty much become a holocaust-like invasion hence why we got some resistance in our story and now said resistance has more reason than ever to defeat their enemies after finding out the truth.

This was a surprisingly informative episode with some expanded lore and neat fanservice. Other than that, the dynamic of Rin and Yuki interacting was nice. I Wasn’t sure how the two interacting would work, but it was fun to watch with one hell of an unexpected cliffhanger. The questions that stuck with me the most are whether or not Kudo will actually fight for something he believes in, and what the hell was Balzac talking about by a “transmutation”?
