(670 The Score) Former Cubs slugger Sammy Sosa drew just 18.5% of votes in his 10th and final year on the Hall of Fame ballot.
Sosa drew 73 votes from the 394 submitted, according to the Baseball Writers’ Association of America. Sosa garnered his highest percentage of votes ever but wasn’t even close to the 75% threshold needed to gain election and induction into Cooperstown.
Sosa hit 609 homers – including 545 for the Cubs from 1992 to 2004 – but his career was plagued by accusations of performance-enhancing drug use.
Former White Sox ace Mark Buehrle drew 5.8% of the vote in his second year on the ballot. He surpassed the 5% threshold needed to remain on the ballot for the following year.
Former Red Sox slugger David Ortiz was the only player among the 30 candidates in this 2022 class to be elected into the Hall of Fame, drawing 77.9% of votes in his first year on the ballot.
