Glen Casada, Franklin's representative to the Tennessee General Assembly since 2003, will run for Williamson County Clerk in 2022. The Republican lawmaker and former Speaker of the House pulled a petition to run in the county elections on Jan. 18.

Casada announced in November that he would retire from the state legislature after his term ended. He previously suggested he was "not done with service" and would consider a run for the clerk position.

Jeff Whidby, who has been the county's interim clerk since November, will oppose Casada. Whidby joined the clerk's office in 2003, became chief deputy clerk in 2011 and was named interim clerk following the retirement of his grandmother, Elaine Anderson.

Almost every candidate seeking office in Williamson County, including Casada and Whidby, will do so as Republicans. Three school board candidates are running as independents.

Incumbent Rogers Anderson will run unopposed for a sixth term as Williamson County mayor.

Casada has been involved in multiple scandals during his political career. In 2020, FBI agents raided his home and the homes of other lawmakers involved in a bitter Republican primary battle in 2020.
