Dwayne Johnson Is Adapting One of the ‘Most Badass’ Video Games as a Movie

Dwayne Johnson (Remember when you had to put “The Rock” in-between his names?) is basically one of the most powerful people in entertainment at the moment. He makes nothing but hit movies, runs a successful production company, and has one of the most powerful social media presences on the planet. According to an interview with Men’s Journal, Dwayne Johnson is also about to step into a world that almost no one has succeeded in: video game movie adaptation.

At the end of the interview, after discussing how swole he got for Black Adam, he was asked about his close work with Microsoft and Xbox throughout the years. Dwayne Johnson first said that he loves Madden, despite that not really being related, but then went on to say that he is working on a movie adaptation of a massive video game franchise that he can’t talk about right now.

“I can’t tell you which game, in particular, we’re doing, but there will be an announcement this year,” he said speaking of the upcoming adaptation. “We’re going to bring one of the biggest, most badass games to the screen—one that I’ve played for years. I’m really excited to bring it to fans around the world. Of course, we’re going to do right by our gamer friends—but really we’re just going to make a great movie.”

Johnson seems to be saying that his Seven Bucks Productions, which recently released Red Notice, will be developing the film, so it’s no guarantee that he’d be starring in it. He has, however, played a role in nearly every film from the company, so… maybe it is. Just what the franchise is is obviously a mystery, but one might easily lean towards a more action-oriented game from EA (thus the Madden connection) like Need for Speed or Epic Games’ Fortnite. The latter might be more possible as Johnson has been involved with that game in the past. He’s also no stranger to taking on gaming roles, as he delivered the only good part of the Doom movie and starred in Rampage, which had no good parts.
