Rochester, NY (WHAM) - Much colder air will be making a return to WNY through this evening and Wednesday and that means a little more lake effect snow for most areas north of the Thruway.
For most areas the snow will fall into the nuisance category, but areas east of Rochester into Wayne County may find 2-5" by midday Wednesday. Wayne County will be under a winter weather advisory until 6 AM Wednesday morning.
Snow amounts closer to Rochester will likely be lower with a general 1 to 3" of new snowfall expected. Eastern and Northern suburbs of Monroe County will be on the upper end of this snow forecast while suburbs south and west may only see a coating to 1" of new snow through tomorrow. Officially, only one day has been snow free for Rochester over the lest two weeks. That day was January 19th.
Snowfall for the month was at 29.6" through January 24th with today's snow likely pushing us over 30" for the month. This snow total is about 9" above normal for January.
Also, you've probably noticed that it's been pretty cold too. The monthly average temperature is 21 degrees, which is 5.5 degrees below normal. However, the recent trend of above normal snow and frigid cold may back off some heading into February. The deep trough of low pressure along the east coast of the U.S. looks like it will weaken some and move back toward the U.S./Canada border during the 1st week of February.
This trend would invite near normal or slightly warmer than normal air back into the Great Lakes and WNY, stay tuned!
