Microsoft stock tries to fend off a break of the 200-day moving average for 2nd-straight day

Shares of Microsoft Corp. (msft) fell 0.8% in afternoon trading, putting them on track to fight off a break of the closely watched 200-day moving average for the second-straight day. The 200-DMA, which many chart watchers see as a dividing line between longer-term uptrends and downtrends, rose to $292.94 on Tuesday, or 1.2% below the previous session's close, from $292.78 on Monday. The last time it closed below the 200-DMA was March 25, 2020. On Monday, the stock dipped below the 200-DMA, as it fell as much as 6.7% to an intraday low of $276.05 before bouncing to close above it at $296.37. On Tuesday, the stock fell as much as 3.8% to an intraday low of $285.71, before climbing back above it. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq Composite (comp) fell 0.8% to 13,742, below its 200-DMA at 14,735, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average (djia) gained 128 points, or 0.4%, to 34,489, but below its 200-DMA at 34,969.
