DETROIT (WWJ) -- A teen who alleged fired at two Wayne County Sheriff's Deputies has been given a bond increase to $250,000 with a GPS tether and the condition of no longer driving a motor vehicle.

Judge Kenyetta Sanford Jones heard the emergency bond motion Tuesday morning as requested by Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy. Worthy filed the motion on Friday after learning Alex Hailey, 18, was given a $100,000 personal bond with a GPS tether by a magistrate.

Worthy's office had earlier arraigned Hailey on multiple charges including assault with intent to murder, felonious assault, fleeing police, and possession of a felony firearm stemming from a Jan. 18 incident in Detroit where Hailey fired at two deputies with a handgun and sped away.

Worthy argued the original bond did not suit the serious nature of Hailey's alleged crimes.

"The previous bond was insufficient and inadequate to protect the community," Worthy said in a statement. "We feel that the bond set by Judge Sanford Jones has corrected this situation.”

During Tuesday's hearing, the young man's defender said Hailey, a Detroit resident, was suffering from mental health issues that were validated by friends and family. Judge Jones granted Hailey a psychological evaluation and he will undergo therapy sessions on a regular basis while housed at the Oakland County jail.

The emergency bond motion was originally set for Monday, but was adjourned until Tuesday due to an issue with the Detroit Detention Center.

A competency hearing was scheduled for April 9 at 9 a.m.
