The man who recently resigned as head coach of the Reading High School football team is charged with molesting a girl on multiple occasions over a four-year period when she was as young as 3.

Andre M. Doyle, 39, of Swatara Township, Dauphin County, was arraigned Nov. 9 before District Judge Michael J. Smith on the charges filed by Swatara Township police.

Doyle remains free to await a hearing, which has been postponed twice, most recently on Monday, before Smith.

According to the criminal complaint:

In March, a girl disclosed to a caseworker with Dauphin County Children and Youth Services that she was molested frequently between 2014 and 2018 by Doyle. She said the assaults occurred when she visited Doyle’s home.

She would tell him to stop and try to leave the room, but Doyle prevented her from leaving.

One time a woman walked into the bedroom during an assault. The woman told him to stop what he was doing and walked out of the room.

There were other indecent assaults.

Doyle resigned at the beginning of this year after four seasons with the Red Knights, compiling an 8-26 record.

He told the Reading Eagle that he didn’t have the time to devote to coaching, especially after taking a job as CEO of resort-style fitness and wellness center based in New Jersey.

He also said he’s beginning his dissertation for a doctorate at Liberty University.

Doyle also said he has business interests, including owning several pizza shops in the Harrisburg area and investing in rental properties.

Doyle’s Harrisburg attorney was unavailable for comment.

The school district released this statement later Tuesday afternoon that read in part:

“The Reading School District is sickened to learn of the report of sexual assault against a child resulting in charges against our former football coach, Andre Doyle.

“Mr. Doyle was employed by Reading School District from 2018 – 2021 as head football coach at Reading High School. That was his only assignment. He resigned on December 13, 2021, without specifying a reason. When hired, all clearances for hiring, including state and federal background checks and child abuse history, were completed by the District, and the report was clear.

“The District first learned of the arrest on January 25, 2022. Reading School district has no record of the arresting police department (located in Dauphin County) notifying the district about Mr. Doyle.

“Reading High School social workers will be available tomorrow to talk with students who are just learning about the arrest.”
