Burgers are back baby!! Perhaps the world had been craving a comforting beefy meal during the anxiety of a pandemic. Because it seems like burger shop after burger shop opened up once the world changed in 2020.
The truth is, of course, burgers never went away. But it sure seems like we’re in the middle of a burger renaissance here in NYC.
One of the new places that is easy to miss on bustling Mulberry Street is Bronson’s Burgers. It’s from the team who run the nearby restaurants Kimika and Wayla of which I am a fan of both. There is a cute awning that brings up memories of classic American burger shops. And a menu that actually extends beyond burgers to include fried chicken, salads, shakes, and even tacos.
But of course, I was here for the burger and it did not disappoint.
There’s a veggie burger option, sliders, and a bacon burger. But I decided to keep it simple and order their classic Bronson Burger with cheddar cheese, pickles, and caramelized onions. Simple, classic, and utterly delicious.
The patty was thicker than some of the other smashed options out there and it oozes with juice and beefy flavors. The cheddar cheese covers the entire patty and the caramelized onions added a very nice sweetness. And the bun is sturdy and puffy and amazingly stays together with each bite.
It’s actually a great burger to eat on the go without too much mess. And you still get all the flavor and exhilaration of a tavern-style burger. And truthfully, it’s just what I needed. Price: $12
