Winter weather advisory issued for areas east of Rochester. Heavy lake effect snow possible

A winter weather advisory has been issued for areas east of Rochester.

The advisory, which covers Wayne, northern Cayuga and Oswego counties, will be in effect until 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Total lake effect snow accumulations of 4 to 7 inches is expected in some areas. In addition, wind gusts of up to 35 mph are also possible.

Plan on slippery road conditions, according to the National Weather Service in Buffalo.

Hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute, according to the Weather Service. It will also be cold, with air temperatures expected to drop to the low single digits overnight, forecasters said. But with wind chills, it will feel like 15 to 20 below zero.
