United Supermarkets Corporate Dietician Brenda Garcia really encourages shoppers to eat well to live well and provides tons of resources to make that goal easier. You can download the free cookbook off her team's blog, Happy + Nourished, or look for products tagged at United Supermarkets based on dietary goals, such as organic, dairy-free, vegan, carb aware, and more.

This month, she's encouraging shoppers to kick off the new year by trying new foods that also are a little healthier. Here are some ideas:

1) Unbun. This is a whole line of bagels, bread, and more with more protein and fewer carbs than the traditional version.

2) Iwon Organics protein puffs. Similar to the cheese puff snacks you might be used to, these boast 10 grams of protein per serving and come in a variety of flavors. Brenda's favorite is sweet onion.

3) Powdered almond or peanut butter. Brenda suggests mixing the powder with your favorite milk alternative to make a healthy, protein-packed smoothie or shake. Try mixing peanut butter powder with Mooala Bananamilk.

You can always try United Supermarkets' Ready Meals, too. They include several options labeled as Dieticians Top Picks, which means they have lower sodium and less than 25 grams of carbs per serving. They are great as a full meal or paired with other quick options, such as fresh veggies or a bagged salad kit.
