Authorities said a 55-year-old worker was on board the boat around 9:10 a.m. near Building 292, which houses FDNY Marine 6, when some equipment suddenly exploded.

It remains unclear what the equipment was, or how close the man was to the blast.

NYPD officials said the man suffered burn wounds to the face and arms and was transported to NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital in serious condition.

Authorities noted that the man is expected to survive.

No other injuries were reported as a result of this incident.

The cause of the explosion remains under investigation.
