Route 113 and Route 24 signs

MILLSBORO, Del. - The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) will reconfigure traffic signals at the intersection of Route 113 and Route 24  Tuesday to decrease congestion at one of the state's busiest intersections.

DelDOT crews will work on the lights from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday. Drivers can expect left lane closures and delays during that time.

The new traffic pattern will help keep traffic moving and alleviate some of the backup that happens there.

"We will be changing from the current arrangement where both directions get the left turn signal at the same time and both directions get the through green traffic signal at the same time," said DelDOT Communications Director, C.R. McLeod. "And what we’re now going to be seeing is where one direction at a time will both have a through movement and a left turn movement simultaneously."

The project comes in partnership with the town of Millsboro after receiving a lot of community feedback asking for improvement to the intersection. It's one phase of the larger Millsboro Bypass Project set to take place in a few years.

This is a one-day project. If all goes as planned, the new traffic pattern will be in effect by drivers' Tuesday evening commute. There will be "new traffic pattern" signs and police assistance to alert drivers of the new configuration.
