A quilt guild made the holidays warmer for veterans in a hospice residence.

The Crossroads Quilt Guild in Perry, Georgia donated 12 quilts for veteran hospice residents over the holiday season, according to a VA blog post.

“Approximately 100 members are part of our guild and we’ve been donating quilts to the Carl Vinson VA’s homeless program for the last seven years,” said Charity Naim, a social worker at Carl Vinson and member of the quilt guild.

Eleven hospice residents received quilts, with the 12th being earmarked for special delivery.

“Charity informed me that one of her quilts was perfect for a baby. I immediately thought of one of our homeless veterans participating in our Maternity Care program and due to deliver any day now,” said Women’s Health Social Worker Tammie Campbell.

“We have so many veterans with children who need assistance. The quilt is the cherry on top of the items we pack up and provide to them year-round, especially during our annual baby shower in April.”

When a veteran in hospice passes away, their remains are escorted by VA Police and the Dublin VAMC Honor Guard and transported for funeral services.

The quilts are passed on to family members where memories will continue to be created and cherished.
