The popular third-person shooter series from The Coalition could be getting a re-release in The Master Chief Collection style.

Over the weekend, we got a rumour from Shpeshal Nick aka Nick Baker of XboxEra that another Xbox IP could be getting The Master Chief Collection (MCC) style re-release. In case you're not familiar with MCC, it's basically a compilation of Halo games with improved frame-rate, visuals and other original content like multiplayer maps.

Nick did not specify which Xbox IP it is but it seems that Gears of War is the one getting a makeover. Replying to a tweet about the rumour, The Verge reported Tom Warren has hinted at the Gears franchise getting the MCC treatment by tweeting: "the gears are really turning on this rumour".

This certainly makes sense since not all Gears games are available on PC and Xbox would probably look to introduce the franchise to the new group of players, just like they did with Halo and the MCC.

Additionally, Gears of War fans would certainly appreciate the re-releases since they've been asking for such a collection ever since Xbox released the one for Halo.

But as always with rumours and leaks, we suggest you take everything with a grain of salt until Microsoft officially announce such a collection.

If the rumour is indeed legit, we could be hearing about it at Xbox's next big games showcase, which is probably planned for June 2022.
