Daytona man convicted in murder over drugs, rap music sentenced to life

Police said Kevin Stokes was 17 years old when he opened fire from a BMW in July, hitting and killing Cam as he ran from another vehicle.

A man convicted of the 2019 shooting death of another man in Daytona Beach was sentenced to life in prison Monday.

Now 20-year-old Kevin Simons-Stokes was just 17 in July 2019 when police say he opened fire from a BMW, hitting and killing 19-year-old Daemon Carn.

Stokes was captured two months later with the assistance of the U.S. Marshal’s Service, and in October 2021, a jury found him guilty of first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a delinquent.

Daytona Beach Police have said they believe the motive for the shooting was part of an ongoing feud between gangs over drugs and rap music.

At the time, it was one of six gang-related shootings that took place in Daytona Beach over a period of two days.
