Ciryl Gane suffered his first-ever loss at UFC 270 and he took it with grace and honor. The Frenchman was challenging Francis Ngannou in order to unify the UFC heavyweight championships.

Ciryl Gane may never get the chance to fight Francis Ngannou again should he not re-sign with the UFC. The Frenchman actually wants him to stay with the promotion.

“If he leaves like that, I don’t want that,” Gane said post-fight via The Mac Life. “I want my rematch. I want to do this fight a second time. I want this fight, I want this rematch.”

There was a lot of talk leading into the fight about Francis Ngannou's relationship with the UFC, Ciryl Gane's coach beefing with the champion, and many other distracting talking points. None of it fazed Gane as he was preparing to fight for the title.

“No, I was really focused on my mission,” Gane stated. “All the stories around this fight were just stories and it was not a burden for me, I was just focused on my target. If we have a rematch, I’m gonna be focused, but I’m gonna improve on my weaknesses.

“This is reality,” he added. “This is hurting me a lot, but it’s the truth and I hope tomorrow I’m gonna improve. I’m gonna do more to be a better version of myself.”

The fight was a very close one and it wasn't clear if Francis Ngannou had done enough to remain the champion at UFC 270. Ciryl Gane already knew the results when the fight came to an end.

“At the end of the fight, I knew already,” he said. “I’m really intelligent, I’m really aware, and I knew he won this fight.”
