On Monday this week, the Yuba County District Attorney, Clint Curry, filed a criminal complaint to the court against Aaron Tobias Quinn, 44, of Oroville, for his actions during a pursuit and officer-involved shooting on January 16.
According to officials, the criminal complaint contained additional allegations, including attempted murder of a peace officer, assault with a semiautomatic firearm on a peace officer, being a felon in possession of a firearm, recklessly evading a peace officer, and transportation of methamphetamine.
Curry says the complaint alleges Quinn personally discharged a firearm while committing the attempted murder, that he was out on bail on a pending felony case in Butte County, and that he has two prior strike offenses that would qualify him for sentencing under the three-strikes law.
Officers say Quinn was arrested on Sunday, Jan. 16, for the attempted murder of a peace officer after they say he fired shots at an officer after crashing his car on La Porte Road in Yuba County, following a brief pursuit. Officers exchanged gunfire with Quinn who was then seriously injured and hospitalized.
Quinn remains hospitalized following the incident and, as a result, an arraignment date has not yet been set. However, District Attorney Curry says Quinn faces a maximum penalty of life in prison.
