Real Madrid Transfers: Luka Jovic to Arsenal is a load of rubbish

Just because he isn’t seeing regular minutes with Real Madrid does not mean he should leave the club.

Considering the high price of €60 million Los Blancos paid for the young goalscorer in the summer of 2019, his time in the capital has looked – to many – like a resounding failure. Watching Carlo Ancelotti do everything he can to incorporate Jovic into the squad with regularity is tricky because Karim Benzema has been that good in front of goal.

A brief loan stint last spring with his former club Eintracht Frankfurt has motivated several clubs looking for a striker to inquire about Luka Jovic.

The most recent club to get thrown into the rumor mill is Arsenal. The rumors have been swirling the last couple of days that Mikel Arteta and the Gunners are prepared to make an offer for Jovic on a short-term loan through the end of the campaign.

Don’t believe this jargon.

When I say there are ‘rumors swirling’, they are nothing more than discussion.

Jovic has stated on multiple occasions that he wants to finish out this season with Real Madrid, see how it goes, and reassess his career options during the summer. Remember, Jovic is on a six-year contract with Los Blancos.

As we near the halfway point – which will be this summer – there is not a lot of reason to sell the player nor keep him. Arsenal was a club mentioned to be interested in Jovic when he was struggling to get on the pitch at all a couple of months ago, but it seems highly-unlikely Real Madrid would want to let him go on a short-term loan again.

The move to Frankfurt didn’t help his standing with the club or his new manager, so why do it again?

Especially with Karim Benzema suffering a hamstring injury in the draw with Elche Sunday and Mariano Diaz still seen as nothing more than a benchwarmer, Real would have no true backup striker in the event Benzema could not play.

The narrative from Jovic seems to have changed in recent months. The 24-year-old seems to be a bit happier and he has shown some flashes of quality when filling in for The Big Benz.

With Arsenal more interested in Fiorentina breakout scorer Dusan Vlahovic or Real Sociedad’s Alexander Isak, loaning in Luka Jovic is a temporary place-holder while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is away from the squad.

Jovic wants to stay and prove he is worth the €60 million the club paid for him nearly three years ago – and he could get that chance to prove himself in the Copa del Rey quarterfinals against Athletic Club.
