The Chicago Bears should really try for this coaching legend

The head coaching search continues for the Chicago Bears. It isn’t really smart to hire a head coach before a general manager but some exceptions could be made. One of the best coaches in the NFL might be more available than some think.

Sean Payton has been one of the NFL’s best head coaches for a long time. Some people may think that Drew Brees was the main reason that the New Orleans Saints were successful over the years and that is probably true. Good quarterbacks run the NFL.

However, a great head coach is also needed as we have seen across the sport for a long time. Payton is going to be in the Hall of Fame one day thanks to his large body of work. He hasn’t dismissed the idea of moving on from New Orleans before the 2022 season begins.

The Chicago Bears should be all over that. He is the type of head coach that you hire before a GM and have him help you make that hire. He has been so successful in this position and could bring a lot to the Bears.

The Chicago Bears could really use someone like Sean Payton running the team.

He has also been around great players for so long and knows how to coach them. Chicago’s biggest thing right now needs to be developing Justin Fields. Based on his experience with Brees, Payton might be a great help in that quest. If he is actually available, the Bears should do everything they can to bring that guy in.

If Sean Payton came to Chicago and had success, he would become one of the most beloved figures in the history of the city. It might mean a little more to him doing it here than it would anywhere else too which is a reason to believe that it is possible.

Payton was born in California but he grew up in Illinois. He went to Naperville Central and played quarterback there. Following that, he went to Eastern Illinois for college and even had a stint with the Chicago Bears as a player. He was also a quarterbacks coach at Illinois in the 90s.

The local ties are certainly there. With that in mind, he probably knows how bad of an organization the Bears are in terms of how they’re run. If he were to come, chances are it would come at a price.

He would want a lot of money and he would certainly want George McCaskey/Ted Phillips to leave him alone. This is obviously a pipe dream but it is something to think about as the offseason rolls along.

Every day that passes without a new coach being hired is another day where we can believe they will mess this up. Landing a legend like Payton would start to make people change the way that they perceive the future so it must be considered.
