Assemblyman Steve Bennett, D-Ventura, is one of four speakers for the neighborhood council meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The state assemblyman representing Ventura will discuss state policies that affect Ventura and Ventura County at the College Area Community Council virtual meeting 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Assemblyman Steve Bennett, D-Ventura, is one of four speakers for the neighborhood council meeting, which represents residents in Ventura's District 3, between Dunning Street/Lemon Grove Avenue and Hill Road, north of Highway 126.

After Bennett addresses local issues, Arriana Rabago, an environmental services specialist for Ventura, will discuss a new statewide food waste recycling program.

The program took effect on Jan. 1 and requires food waste to be recycled. In Ventura, residents must place food scraps inside of a bag and place it in their yard waste cart.

Cmdr. Rick Murray of the Ventura Police Department will also discuss crime, and Nancy O’Connor, Ventura's parks and recreation director, will provide a general update on her city department.

The area's next neighborhood council meeting is scheduled for Feb. 23.
