As we enter the 2022 NFL offseason, Green Bay Packers fans suddenly have one word on their minds: rebuild.
That is mainly due to the comments made by Aaron Rodgers after the Packers' heartbreaking 13-10 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday night, that he does not want to be a part of a rebuild if he continues his playing career. The comments made their way to Packers head coach Matt LaFleur on Monday and he had this to say on the subject:
After Aaron Rodgers said Saturday night he does not want to play with a rebuilding team, asked Matt LaFleur if he feels #Packers are entering a rebuild given the salary cap situation.
"There's no plan for a rebuild," he says.

Those are pretty strong words from LaFleur in favor of bringing back this core of players, but wanting to do something and being able to do so are completely different. Currently sitting at 31st in the NFL with negative $38.4 million in projected 2022 salary cap space, it will be extremely hard for the team to bring back their core free agents and Rodgers.
Aaron surely knows this and is making it to where he has an easier “out” with the Packers fans that have done nothing but support him for a decade and a half. It is in the best interests of the Packers to trade Rodgers for as many draft picks and/or young players as they can. That is so that they do not have to spend big on those positions in free agency and can instead re-sign their free agents, which is a mounting list.
Among Green Bay's free agents are 2021 first-team all-pro starters, wide receiver Davante Adams and linebacker De'Vondre Campbell, 2021 pro-bowl cornerback Rasul Douglas and 2020 pro-bowl tight end Robert Tonyan. Tonyan ended the year with a knee injury that required surgery so he may be able to be brought back at a slight discount but the other three will be one of if not the top option at their position in 2022 NFL free agency.
