A man charged with assault at a Main Street grocery store in September has been sentenced to 10 months in jail following a guilty plea last month in Suffolk County Criminal Court.

Duntrell Thomas, 27, pleaded guilty to Attempted Assault in the Second Degree on Dec. 14 in connection with a physical dispute that injured another man at Village Grocery at 733 E. Main Street on Sept. 2.

Thomas was charged with Assault in the Second Degree, a Class D felony. He was also charged with Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree because he allegedly became combative and punched a wall inside Riverhead Police Department headquarters during processing for the assault arrest.

Suffolk County Criminal Court Judge Richard I. Horowitz on Jan. 18 sentenced Thomas to 10 months in jail.

Thomas is incarcerated at the Suffolk County Correctional Facility in Riverside, where he has been in custody since Sept. 3.
