St. George Illawarra have confirmed fullback-in-waiting Tyrell Sloan has penned a new deal with the club and been added to their top 30 roster ahead of the 2022 season.

Sloan, who made his highly-anticipated debut in the Red V last season and played five games while still on a development contract, has signed a deal to the end of 2024.

The extension sees Sloan officially promoted to Anthony Griffin's NRL squad, making him eligible for selection in the Dragons' round 1 clash with the New Zealand Warriors.

The Dapto junior is among a new crop of local talent that the Dragons have re-signed over the pre-season along with Matt Feagai, Max Feagai and Jayden Sullivan, the quartet all members of the Illawarra Steelers' 2019 SG Ball premiership-winning side.

"Re-signing is a proud moment in my career. It's good news for the club that there's a few of us staying put and remaining with our friends and family. None of us wanted to leave. This is our home," Sloan said.

"It's exciting being in the first grade squad having come through the juniors together. It's a cool moment for all of us. We're all proud to wear the Red V jersey and we're keen to take it back to where it needs to be, playing finals footy.

"I was put in the deep end last year, but it was an opportunity I was more than happy to take. My debut was the best moment of my life and to get four more games afterwards was very pleasing.

"It's healthy competition across the squad and I'm very much looking forward to the challenges ahead. We're all looking forward to playing footy now."

Sloan burst onto the scene in 2021 after being given an opportunity for his first start in the No. 1 in round 15 against Canberra, scoring a stunning try on debut.

He would score a total of six tries over five games by the season's end, including a double to finish the year against South Sydney.

With the Dragons cutting incumbent Matt Dufty over the off-season, Sloan has been endorsed as the club's long-term fullback and is the man favoured in a race with fellow youngster Cody Ramsey to be wearing the No. 1 for Griffin's side to start the season.

"Last season was an important one for Tyrell's growth as a player. His progression through the grades was crucial as was his opportunity to cut his teeth in first grade in the latter rounds of the year," Dragons general manager of football Ben Haran said.

"Off the back of another big pre-season, 2022 is shaping up to be an exciting year for Tyrell. We are looking forward to seeing him develop further over the coming seasons."

The re-signing off Sloan comes amidst a busy off-season from the Dragons that has seen them recruit George Burgess (Wigan Warriors, 2023), Jack Gosiewski (Manly Sea Eagles, 2022), Moses Mbye (Wests Tigers, 2023), Tautau Moga (South Sydney Rabbitohs, 2022), Francis Molo (North Queensland Cowboys, 2024), Jaydn Su'a (South Sydney Rabbitohs, 2024), Moses Suli (Manly Sea Eagles, 2024), Aaron Woods (Cronulla Sharks, 2023) ahead of Griffin's second year at the helm.
