An investigation is underway after a body was found under snow in a meadow in South Lake Tahoe over the weekend.
A wildlife photographer was in the meadow taking photos on Jan. 22 when they discovered the remains and contacted police. South Lake Tahoe Police responded to the report of a body found in the meadow behind US Bank just before 9:30 a.m.
Upon arrival, SLTPD Officers located a human body in the snow. SLTPD detectives responded to the scene and began an investigation. Officials say the body appeared to have been buried in the late December snowstorms and became discoverable due to snow melt from the recent warmer temperatures.
The body was later identified as 50-year old Tracey Megenhardt. Officials say Megenhardt was a known transient in South Lake Tahoe.
Any members if the public who have information helpful to this investigation are asked to contact Detective Allen Molesworth with South Lake Tahoe PD (530) 542-6138.
The cause of death is still under investigation.
