Montgomery College Board of Trustees Announces Feb. 28 as Start Date for New President Dr. Jermaine Williams

In a statement to the Montgomery College community today, Montgomery College Board of Trustees Chair Michael J. Knapp announced that Dr. Jermaine Williams will begin serving as the College's new president on Monday, February 28, 2022.

Statement from Chair Knapp:

"On behalf of the Montgomery College Board of Trustees, I am pleased to announce that Dr. Jermaine Williams will begin serving as MC’s new president on Monday, February 28, 2022. Last Tuesday, Dr. Williams joined Interim President Charlene Dukes in a live conversation around his vision and values, as part of the Spring Opening Meeting. As I am sure you noted, he is eager to begin his new role and is energetically engaged with the Board, Dr. Dukes, and her leadership team in initiating this transition. In my recent conversations with him, Dr. Williams has been enthusiastic about meeting faculty and staff and understanding their aspirations and contributions to achieving the College’s mission.

An essential part of this process will be the formation of a presidential transition team that will be essential in facilitating Dr. Williams’ thorough orientation to the College, county, and region and introduction to and collaboration with community and business partners. The Board and Dr. Williams have asked Dr. Dukes to serve as a consultant for this process and to provide continuity during this session of the Maryland General Assembly given her deep knowledge of the College and region and her continuing leadership. The Board is grateful for her willingness to serve in the interim capacity for the last seven months and will recognize her contributions later in the spring.

As you know, Dr. Williams is joining the College at a time of unique flux. As all institutions, MC is managing the coronavirus’ health and safety issues as well as enrollment challenges. In order to prioritize these more pressing issues, the Board will communicate further about details related to formal acknowledgements of Dr. Williams’ arrival in the coming weeks. It is our hope that conditions will continue to improve in order that we and our community members can fully welcome Dr. Williams. Further details on these plans will be announced as they are developed.

Please join the Board of Trustees in welcoming Dr. Williams at the end of February and supporting his transition to Montgomery College."
