Marvel's Chris Evans has signed on to star opposite DC's Dwayne Johnson in upcoming Amazon Studios movie Red One.

The casting news has been reported by Deadline, but no further details about Evans' character have been confirmed as yet.

Directed by Jake Kasdan, who worked with Johnson on Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and its sequel Jumanji: The Next Level, the flick is aiming to kick off production this year, and has been described by The Wrap as "an action-adventure comedy set within the holiday genre".

Fast & Furious veteran Chris Morgan is on board to pen the script, working from an original story idea by Hiram Garcia, who has produced a number of Johnson-led outings including Skyscraper, Jungle Cruise and Red Notice.

Dany Garcia, Kasdan and Johnson will also act as producers. As it stands, no plot details for Red One have been released but given all of the people behind it, and their past collaborative works, you can probably conjure up an idea as to what kind of movie it's going to be.

Before he's seen sharing the screen with The Rock, Evans is lined up to appear in The Gray Man, a new action-thriller from Avengers: Endgame helmers Joe and Anthony Russo. He'll also soon be heard on-screen too, lending his voice to the character of Buzz Lightyear in Pixar's Toy Story spin-off Lightyear.

And if that's not enough, he's also developing an untitled Gene Kelly project with Rian Johnson in which he'll both star in and produce, as well as also gearing up to shoot Apple TV+ movie Ghosted.

Projects that Johnson has on the horizon include DC League of Super-Pets, The King, a Big Trouble in Little China reboot and the eagerly anticipated DC superhero movie, Black Adam.

Avengers: Endgame is out now on DVD, Blu-ray, 3D, 4K and digital download, and is available on Disney+. Black Adam is currently scheduled for release on July 29, 2022.
