It wasn't just empty seats at Heinz Field that were concerning last season.
While ratings for NFL games continue to be strong for the most part, but even with the Steelers making it to the postseason for the second straight year, numbers were down locally.
According to the Sports Business Journal, local rating in Pittsburgh fell 10 percent compared to 2020.
The Steelers posted a 36.24 rating this past season and a 40.18 in 2020.
The Steelers had a roller coaster type season, but were able to sneak into the playoffs.
10 other teams saw their rating fall locally in 2021 as well.
The Browns fell only 2 percent but have a lower rating of 35.19.
Four teams saw their rating fall even more compared to Pittsburgh. The Chicago Bears Seattle Seahawks and New York Giants fell 14 percent and the Houston Texans saw an 18 percent drop. Those decreased ratings are likely due to poor play on the field.
The Kansas City Chiefs surprisingly saw their ratings fall four percent compared to last year.
Both Los Angeles teams saw a big jump in ratings but for the size of their market it’s a poor number. The Chargers pulled in an 8.49 rating, the Rams, a 10.52.
