The victim had an active PFA against Parker at the time of the incident.

Parker's defense argued for a more lenient sentence saying that he "drank a large amount of alcohol before the incident and had an undiagnosed mental illness."
Parker told the victim and their family in attendance that "if I could go back in time, I’d change what I’ve done.”
