Spider-Man: Sony Reportedly Eyeing for Zendaya to Star in Her Own Spinoff Film

Besides the triumphant return of the characters from the past Spider-Man films, Spider-Man: No Way Home also gave us a deep dive exploration on the relationship between Peter Parker and MJ, who has emerged as one of the fan-favorite main characters in the "Homecoming" trilogy. Now, it looks like we might see more of her despite what happened at the end of the film.

According to Twitter user @MyTimeToShineH, one of the notorious online scoopers, Sony is eyeing for Zendaya to star in her own spin-off film. They didn't provide any more details beyond that. We do have to take note that this didn't come from the major trades nor it was officially confirmed by Sony so we have to take this with a grain of salt although Twitter user @MyTimeToShineH has posted several scoops in the past that ended up being true.

If this rumor is true at all, what plans do they have for the potential MJ spin-off film especially since she doesn't have superpowers at all? The huge possibility is that they will give the character some superpowers early in the film and maybe turn into Spider-Woman. Even though it is unlikely, there's also a chance that the film will be more grounded with less action and we will see her life after forgetting the existence of Peter Parker.

It is not surprising that Sony wants Zendaya to star in her own spin-off film since she is one of the major stars right now thanks to Spider-Man: No Way Home, Dune, and the HBO series Euphoria. Perhaps the studio wants to lock her as one of their franchise's major talents before her star rises even further. However, there's a chance that it will not happen at all since Marvel Studios might use her in future Spider-Man films starring Tom Holland. Let's just wait and see if Sony will eventually confirm the rumor or it will just die down.
