The Case of Vanitas Episode 14 Recap
Based on a beloved manga of the same name, The Case Study of Vanitas follows Noe, a young vampire, and Vanitas, an overpowered human, as they grudgingly team up to rescue vampires from the corruption of their true name, while investigating disturbing mysteries in the vampire world.
To complicate matters, the enigmatic Vanitas makes life difficult for Noe, who, however, can't help being intrigued by his new companion. But as the two embark on occasionally hilarious adventures, there's still a shadow looming over their partnership. Noe, who narrates his story from a later time, reveals that he killed Vanitas at the end of their joint journey.
Episode 14 finally lets Vanitas demonstrate a more vulnerable side. After the chaotic encounter with both the Beast and the Charlatan, Jeanne finds a wounded, feverish Vanitas and takes him to a cabin where she tries to nurse him back to health. They are both more vulnerable than usual around each other, and Jeanne reveals her personal connection to the Beast.
As Vanitas had already suspected, the Beast is a vampire whose True Name was corrupted. Jeanne confirms his suspicion, naming Chloe, formerly her dearest friend, as the Beast, and explaining her personal motivation to kill her.
Chloe is revealed to be none other than the witch who stole the Book of Vanitas. She and her partner, Jean-Jacques Chastel, have also kidnapped Noe. After drinking Noe's blood, Chloe invites him to her table, where Noe finds out she's working with the Charlatan. What now?
