SUFFOLK COUNTY, N.Y. — An icy rescue in New York had police working to free a baby deer that was stuck in the water.
A park ranger first saw the deer stuck in the ice off Long Island and called in officers from the Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau, WPIX reported.
As the officer approached the fawn, he was able to lift it out of the water and put it into the sled with him, WPIX reported. The other officers then pulled the sled back safely to shore, where they used towels to dry the deer and wrapped it in blankets. The water was approximately 40 degrees.

Joking in a Facebook post, the department compared the officers’ rescue to figure skating for the upcoming Winter Olympics, saying “this is a gold medal worthy rescue on our book!”
The deer was taken to an animal rescue center for treatment.
