Will 'Ordinary Joe' Be Getting a Season 2?

The first season of Ordinary Joe is set to come to an end on Monday, January 24 on NBC.

Starring James Wolk as the eponymous Joe Kimbreau, the show follows the character over the course of three alternate timelines. The first sees Joe follow in his father's footsteps by becoming a cop, the second sees him chase his dream of being a singer, while in the third he becomes a nurse after marrying his college sweetheart.

Given the show's first season is about to end, fans will no doubt be wondering if it has been renewed for a second.

Will 'Ordinary Joe' Be Getting a Season 2?

Ordinary Joe was originally created by Matt Reeves, who is currently hard at work on Robert Pattinson's debut as the Caped Crusader in The Batman.

Reeves originally pitched the show back in 2006 with ABC but it was not made, and in 2018 NBC announced it was committed to making the pilot. In March 2021 it was confirmed that it had been picked up for a series.

The show has 13 episodes in total and it has been co-developed by Garrett Lerner and Russel Friend, who also act as executive producers.

In an interview with TVLine, Friend said those behind the scenes are hoping the show's ratings on Hulu and NBC's streaming platform Peacock will help prompt the channel to renew the show.

Of the prospects of there being a Season 2, he said: "We're waiting to hear, obviously, from the network [and] t[r]ying to figure out, basically, how we're doing on streaming.

"Our hope is to get the word out that come Monday, all 13 episodes of the show will be available on Hulu and Peacock. We're really hoping that people discover the show streaming-wise. It's such an bingeable show.

"So we're really hoping that once once all 13 episodes are up, that people who like to binge their shows could now jump in and really get hooked."

He added that if the show were to do well on the streaming platforms then it would "help" in ensuring the show was renewed for a second season, but he claimed they wouldn't know "for months" if it was renewed or canceled.

Ordinary Joe currently has a 50 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and according to TV Series Finale the show has an average 0.32 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.3 million viewers in the live and same day ratings.

Given the ratings are on the lower side, it is unclear if it could do well enough on Peacock or Hulu to earn a second season, but NBC have yet to make an official announcement on the matter.

Ordinary Joe Season 1 ends on Monday January 24 at 10/9c on NBC.
