GRAND HAVEN, MI -- A former Grand Haven Schools assistant superintendent has pleaded no contest to an embezzlement charge after police say he took more than $900,000 over several years.

Brian Wheeler, 56, pleaded no contest to embezzlement of more than $100,000 and using a computer to commit a crime.

Wheeler will be sentenced Feb. 21 in Ottawa County Circuit Court.

Police alleged Wheeler used false invoices for an electric company to siphon money since 2014.

Wheeler was fired from the school district on Nov. 22 and an arrest warrant was issued the next day for embezzlement.
