For the spring/summer 2022 couture show, Schiaparelli once again revisited its surreal roots. But this season, the mood felt darker, almost wake-like, with Daniel Roseberry limiting his color palette to black, white and gold.
Meanwhile, the beauty was suitably somber. Skin was velvety in texture, with a balmy sheen accentuating the cheekbones, while lips were neutral but with a similar shine. The only point of difference was the eyes. Some were simply glossy, but with bleached brows for an otherworldly twist, while others were caked in a dramatic kohl, both along the crease and under the lashline. Overall it was giving emo, but with an haute twist.
There were two standout beauty moments; jewel-encrusted tears dripping down a model’s face, and a sinister gold nose piece, elongated like a Commedia dell’arte mask. Elsewhere, the hair was slicked back and minimal, which kept things modern. It was also the perfect canvas for Roseberry’s giant halo-like hair accessories.
