One sled dog rescued, one dies after fire breaks out in Jefferson, New Hampshire kennel
One sled dog was rescued but another died after a fire broke out at a New Hampshire kennel early Monday. The Jefferson Fire Department said a wood stove that was located too close to a wall likely caused a fire that killed a sled dog.Crews were called to the Muddy Paws Kennel on Valley Road early Monday morning for a report of a building fire. When crews arrived, they said they found a storage unit on fire. Soon after, firefighters were notified that two sled dogs were inside. Fire officials said the dogs were being separated from the outside dogs because they had just undergone surgery and were resting.Firefighters rushed inside the building to try to save the animals. They said they immediately located one of the dogs and got it to safety, but the other dog had taken into too much smoke and was not able to be revived. No people were injured.
